Day 1:
I have a small introduction on the side of the blog, so no need to introduce myself again, so lets get straight to it. i'm supposed to be resting right now, and i'm in an immense amount of pain but i told myself i would use this blog to go through my journey and i am determined. if you haven't figured it out, this is literally day 1 of me having my lap band as in i just got home from surgery today. The lap band is a outpatient procedure meaning you get it done and can leave the same day.
What made you get the surgery?
This is a question that i have had to answer a few times, asked by the people who i have told about the surgery which isn't that many. Although i am only 19, my weight loss journey has pretty much been a long one. I have been overweight pretty much all my life, at the age of 6 I started to play soccer and I was pretty good at it and my weight wasn't to bad. By the time i stopped playing soccer at 13, my weight had impeded on my play and pretty much was the reason i was forced to stop. During my part of my freshman year and all of my sophomore year and most of my junior year of high school, I was apart of a program called B'N fit. My experience at the program was pretty good to start off, i was highly motivated and i began to lose weight. As the time went on, i started looking at B'N fit as a hangout, i didn't wanna do the workouts, i just wanted to play the sports and i wasn't following the nutritional classes. I ended up being suspended from the program and I never returned. From then on I have been making extremely poor food choices and ballooned up to my highest weight ever. The lap band was something brought up by my doctor and at first i wasn't sure because it was surgery, but after much consideration and being hooked up with a mentor who had the surgery as well, i decided it was a necessity and that i was ready to change my life. There was one stipulation tho, i had to show my insurance company that i could maintain or lose weight for 4 consecutive months. Obviously i was able to do that and i am where i am now.
What Do you Remember from today?
So i woke up today excited and nervous as hell, although the lap band is the least invasive of all weight loss surgeries, its still surgery. i arrived at the hospital and was put through basically a small check up, just to make sure that everything was ok. I was then put in a wheelchair and wheeled upstairs to where the surgery was taken place. I got to the surgical room, laid down and the last thing i remember was being told to count backwards from ten while i was given anesthesia. I awoke in the recovery room in a lot of pain, the recovery nurse, who was extremely nice, gave me some juice which i struggled to get down and proceeded to help me out of bed. i was giving basically a walking test and was told to rate the level of my pain from 1 to 10. i would then get back in the bed and about every 15 minutes i did the same thing. By the time my parents were allowed in thee recovery room, i was feeling well enough to go home. The car ride home was brutal, i had this stinging feeling in my chest, where the doctor had fixed a hernia, it stayed with me the entire ride home. The pharmacy in the hospital was closed so i didn't have my pain medication and i am in the process of waiting for my parents to come back with it. as i type this out on my phone, i am still in a great deal of pain but i am very optimistic for the future, I look forward to going through this journey and I hope i am able to inspire someone else to make the decision.
